In 2012, Stein was the Green Party’s nominee and received 469,627 votes for President of the United States in the 2012 general election.
She formally announced her second presidential bid during an appearance on Democracy Now! on June 22, 2015.
On June 15, 2016, she reached the necessary number of delegates for the presumptive Green nomination.On August 1, 2016, Stein announced that she had selected international human rights activist Ajamu Baraka, an American human rights activist, as her running mate.
