Careful What You Ask For!

When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as Israel’s leaders. The name of his firstborn was Joel and the name of his second was Abijah, and they served at Beersheba. But his sons did not follow his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice.

So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.”

But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord. And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights.”

Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people who were asking him for a king. He said, “This is what the king who will reign over you will claim as his rights: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants. He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. Your male and female servants and the best of your cattle and donkeys he will take for his own use. He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, but the Lord will not answer you in that day.”

But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want a king over us. Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.”

When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the Lord. The Lord answered, “Listen to them and give them a king.”

Former Business Partner
Warns About Trump Presidency

A former business partner begged Americans not to vote for Donald Trump — who he described as unfit for office.

Phil Satre, writing in the Reno Gazette-Journal, recalled his time as a senior vice president for Harrah’s 34 years ago, when the casino company entered a joint venture with Trump at his Atlantic City hotel.

“I am convinced he simply does not have the temperament to be president, or more importantly, commander in chief,” Satre warned. “His hair trigger temper, bluster, racial rhetoric and divisive domestic and international views will endanger our democracy and risk permanent damage to our society.”

FBI Docs: Clinton Sent ‘Confidential’ Emails to Her Maid to Print

In a stunning story from The New York Post, Paul Sperry claims that Hillary Clinton, while acting as Secretary of State, had her maid, Marina Santos, print up sensitive documents on multiple occasions.

Among the flood of emails released by the FBI from Hillary Clinton’s private, unsecured email server, there are several emails in which Clinton’s aides–and even the Democratic presidential nominee herself–write about having “Marina” print out sensitive documents.

In 2011 Trump said he supported ‘amnesty’ for some immigrants

CNN: In an appearance in November of 2011 on “Fox and Friends,” Trump defended former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, then a candidate for the Republican nomination, who was being criticized by his opponent Michele Bachmann for saying at a debate that he wanted “a humane” approach to the subject of illegal immigration which would avoid deporting families rooted in American communities. Trump signaled he liked Gingrich’s approach, agreeing with a Fox host’s description that it could be called amnesty.

John Piper: Christian,
You Are Free Not to Vote

[This clip is from a recent chapel message by John Piper called Sons of Freedom and Joy. The following is the relevant section from Piper’s written manuscript.]

The right to vote in America is not a binding duty (without regard to other factors) for Christians in every election.

“The children are free.” We are free from human institutions. As citizens of heaven, we are not bound in every situation to participate in the processes of human government. This is not our homeland. We vote — if we vote — because the Lord of our homeland commissions us to vote. And he does not absolutize this act above all other considerations of Christian witness.

In this election, with the flagrant wickedness of both party candidates, the logic that moves from “Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution” (1 Peter 2:13) to the necessitythe binding duty — of voting, has lost sight of three things:

  1. the radical meaning of the words, “for the Lord’s sake,” and how it relativizes all human authority and how it brings to bear many other considerations;
  2. the radical freedom of the children of God from the inherent authority of human institutions like government; and
  3. the aim of every citizen of heaven in all human engagements to display our allegiance to the values of another world.

I am not saying we are bound not to vote. I am saying that the children of God are free to hear the voice of their Master about how to best witness to his supremacy. I will vote. But I have no intention of voting for either of these presidential candidates.

Trump Admitted He Has a Close Relationship With Vladimir Putin

In the last debate on October 19, Donald Trump disavowed any relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin–

“I don’t know Putin,”said Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, when asked by moderator Chris Wallace whether he would denounce Russia’s “interference” in the election.

When pressed, Trump said, “Of course I condemn.”

“I don’t know Putin,” he added. “This is not my best friend!

Either Trump was channeling his old pal Bill Clinton by questioning the meaning of the word “know,” or he was lying, because in 2013 he speculated on Putin becoming his “new best friend” —

I Have Held My Nose Long Enough

By Erick Erickson  |  November 2, 2016

In 2008, I held my nose and voted for John McCain. “If you don’t vote for him, Barack Obama will win,” they said. Barack Obama won anyway.

In 2012, I held my nose and voted for Mitt Romney. “If you don’t vote for him, Barack Obama will win,” they said. Barack Obama won anyway.

Now in 2016, they tell me if I don’t vote for Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton will win. I suspect she will anyway. But I am done holding my nose for a Republican candidate.

I could do so with Romney and McCain because, at the end of the day, though I disagreed with them on a lot of policy, I did not think either was a profoundly immoral person who reveled in sin.

Donald Trump is different. The man rolls around in his sins like a pig in mud. And in the process he gets all his supporters muddy too. No one enters Trump’s orbit without getting stained. Pastors suddenly think God is off his throne and the only way to get him back is to vote for a man who supports gay marriage and men in their daughters’ bathrooms. Pro-life activists demand we vote for a man who wants to keep open Planned Parenthood. Small government conservatives demand we support a man who wants a powerful Presidency and a strong Washington. Free trade Republicans demand we vote for a protectionist who would punish any business that sets up shop elsewhere. Border security Republicans demand we vote for a man who hired illegal aliens for cheap labor and who, until he ran for President, supported open borders.

Trump Foundation’s Largest Payout Ever Was $264,631 — To Renovate A Trump Hotel Fountain

Trump Hotel Fountain

According to interviews with various groups and organizations who have sought donations from Trump, the New York developer was quite happy to show up at charity events only to walk away without leaving a check.

In a report issued Saturday afternoon, The Washington Post is reporting one recipient receiving over a quarter of million dollars in charity funds — Trump’s Plaza Hotel for the restoration of a fountain out front.

Its smallest-ever gift, for $7, was paid to the Boy Scouts in 1989, at a time when it cost $7 to register a new Scout. Trump’s oldest son was 11 at the time. Trump did not respond to a question about whether the money was paid to register him.
